Kane Cornes is giving Carlton ZERO chance of upsetting Brisbane in Saturday night’s Elimination Final at the Gabba.
The Blues enter the clash with six losses in their last eight games, but still managed to finish eighth.
On the other hand, Brisbane missed out on a top-four spot but enter the finals with 11 wins from their last 14 matches.
While the Blues have brought back six big names for the clash, Cornes simply thinks that the Blues are making up the numbers when it comes to finals and won’t beat the Lions when push comes to shove on Saturday.
“There’s a couple of changes and good ones for the Lions, Jack Payne and Brandon Starcevich are back in,” Cornes said on SEN Breakfast.
“That definitely strengthens them up, Starcevich is the hardest player to get a kick on as a defender in football right now, he’s a big in.
“But speaking of big ins, the Blues made six – Sam Docherty we knew about, Mitch McGovern got up, Harry McKay got up as did Zac Williams, Tom De Koning and Adam Cerra … but no Charlie Curnow is the big one.
“I give them zero chance … when I say this (it will go everywhere), I’m saying it and look, I’m not complaining.
“Zero chance. Carlton are making up the numbers in this game. I give it (an upset) zero chance.”
Cornes’ co-host David King is also backing Brisbane but isn’t as certain about the result after Geelong caused a huge upset against Port Adelaide in Thursday night’s Qualifying Final.
While the Blues have brought back six big names, he wouldn’t be shocked if one of them comes out of the team on Saturday with two-gamer Ashton Moir waiting in the wings.
“You're never making up the numbers I think,” King said.
“But I think Brisbane should win the game at home. But that was the same discussion with Port Adelaide on Thursday.
“My eyes go to, why is there no Ashton Moir in the team? It makes me think that one of the ‘ins’ isn’t playing and he’ll come in.”
Saturday’s clash at the Gabba begins at 7:30 pm (AEST). The winner of that clash will play the loser of the Sydney v GWS Qualifying Final at the SCG in finals week two.
