Which players should have been given coaches votes for their finals week one performances?
Champion Data’s Daniel Hoyne has named the five players who were perhaps overlooked by the coaches on the weekend.
The below guys ranked high in Champion Data’s ratings yet did not receive any votes.
See the players below:
Josh Ward (Hawthorn)
“I thought he was fantastic,” Hoyne said on SEN Sportsday.
“He attended the most centre bounces of his career playing in that permanent centre bounce role.
“He was the fifth-highest rated player on the ground but didn’t get a vote.”
Rory Lobb (Western Bulldogs)
“Rory Lobb, I thought was the only reason why the Dogs were actually anywhere near the Hawks at half-time with what he was able to do behind the footy.”
Tom Papley (Sydney)
“Tom Papley did get two votes from the coaches, but I thought he probably deserved to get more.
“I thought he and Isaac Heeney were the only reasons they were within four goals at three-quarter time.
“We had him as the second-best player on the ground.”
Sam Taylor (GWS)
“I also want to give Sam Taylor a bit of recognition.
“He was the third-highest rated player on the ground, and I thought his last quarter was enormous to give GWS a chance to hold up.
“He had six intercepts alone in that last quarter.
Will Ashcroft (Brisbane)
“Then Will Ashcroft had a real impactful game with 20 disposals and nine score involvements.
“He was the third-highest rated player on the ground.
“His ball use across the whole weekend was top five, but he didn’t get a vote.
“He was Brisbane’s number one rated player on the ground.”
