Leading trainer Wayne Hawkes expects Fangirl to be mighty hard to beat in the King Charles Stakes.

The Chris Waller-trained star returned to her winning ways on the weekend with an arrogant performance in the 7 Stakes.

Pulled back to last by James McDonald, Fangirl and McDonald whipped around the field to put away their rivals with ease.

It was a statement win and it was one that left Hawkes mightily impressed and keen to follow her wherever she goes for the rest of the spring.

“If you want to see the best ride of Saturday, no doubt it was James McDonald’s ride on Fangirl,” Hawkes told SENTrack.

“He sat up their backsides until he was well in the straight and then he popped out and she just let rip. I know you’ve got to have the horse underneath you to do it and he knew exactly where her sprint was.

“I think she’d be a $1.50 chance in the King Charles and she’ll just be winning, Fangirl runs in the King Charles and just wins by a minute.”

Fangirl is the current $3.50 second favourite in the King Charles Stakes behind Pride Of Jenni ($2.50) who is a confirmed starter in the 1600m feature at Randwick.
