Legendary trainer Gai Waterhouse has given a very strong push for Eliyass in the Caulfield Cup.
Despite suffering his first defeat in four starts two weeks ago in the Turnbull Stakes, Waterhouse is confident the talented import can make amends in the $5 million feature on Saturday.
Expected to roll forward from barrier 21 for jockey Tim Clark, Waterhouse says punters should be having something on the second favourite on the weekend.
“I think we’ve got an outstanding chance in the Caulfield Cup with Eliyass,” Waterhouse told SEN WA.
“I thought his run the other day was very good and it was a perfect lead-up for this race.
“He’s in great form, he’s a beautiful stayer that will be very hard to beat. Any of your listeners should be backing him on Saturday.
“I never worry about barriers, I say that barriers are like your mum and dad, you can’t choose them so get on with it.
“Most of our horses have speed so just enjoy with what you’ve got and don’t worry about it, it’s shadow boxing as you can’t change it.”
The last time a winner won from barrier 21 was Incentivise in the 2021 edition of the Caulfield Cup.
