SENTrack’s Gareth Hall is keen to play a couple of value runners in today’s Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington.

The feature race of the third day of the Flemington Carnival for the three-year-old fillies has two in particular favoured at the top of the market.

Treasurethemoment, who won the Wakeful Stakes on Saturday, and runner-up Powers Of Opal are currently at $3.10 and $3.80 respectively with Sportsbet.

But according to Hall there are odds to be found due to the expected southerly wind which could favour on-pace runners from a speed map perspective - Killcare Beachgirl and Inevitable Truth.

“In the Oaks, Powers Of Opal is the one to beat but I think we can play a little bit of value,” Hall said on SEN Breakfast.

“There’s going to be a southerly wind so I reckon we can back two horses in the Oaks at a price. If you’re in front you’re going to be mighty hard to catch because the southerly gives you a little kick along.

“There are two horses that will be out in front and out of trouble.

“Gai Waterhouse (and Adrian Bott) has a galloper called Killcare Beachgirl that led them up in the Wakeful and finished third. I think the conditions will suit her a bit better, and I reckon Timmy Clark will go faster today than he did on Saturday.

“Then thre’s a horse that I’m really keen on which is the stablemate of Powers Of Opal - Inevitable Truth. Drawn gate 1, I think she can follow Killcare Beachgirl everywhere she goes. Jye McNeil pops off at the clock tower and goes bang.

“The Oaks will be on-pace dominant.”

Killcare Beachgirl, for Tim Clark out of barrier 2, is currently rated a $27 Oaks chance while Inevitable Truth, for Jye McNeil out of gate 1, is also $27 with both paying in excess of $5 the place.

The Crown Oaks jumps at 5:10pm AEDT.

Earlier in the day, Hall likes a sprinter that recently changed hands from WA-based trainer Dion Luciani to Gavin Bedggood who has a knack for recycling the form of struggling horses.

“There is one in Race 2, a horse by the name of Oscar’s Fortune,” he added.

“He’s first-up for new trainer Gavin Bedggood who I call Jesus these days. He gets a horse like Mornington Glory out of the paddock and wins a Group 1.

“He’s got Oscar’s Fortune now and I think he can win with this horse. Damian Lane takes the ride.”

Oscar’s Fortune is currently the second favourite at $4.20 for the Century Stakes (1000m) which jumps at 1:15pm AEDT.

And finally there’s Bold Bastille for Lindsay Park in the Group 3 Red Roses Stakes (1100m).

“There’s a horse a little later on in the Red Roses, boy I’m keen on Bold Bastille,”

“Johnny O’Neill was on the Means Test yesterday declaring it basically. I know Lindsay Park are confident and Mark Zahra keeps the ride.”

Bold Bastille, ridden by Mark Zahra, is currently priced at $4.60 for the Red Roses (Race 7) which jumps at 4:30pm AEDT.
