Kayaking sisters Jess and Noemie Fox shared the Don Award at the Sport Australia Hall of Fame awards at Crown in Melbourne on Monday night.

The Olympic Gold Medallists became the first siblings to win individual gold medals at the Paris Games with Jess claiming two - one in the K1 and one in the C1 - and Noemie reigning supreme in the kayak cross.

“It's so special and I know when I received the call, and then when I called (Noemie) afterwards, I said, ‘Do you realise what this means?’ It's massive and a huge honour,” said Jess.

Noemie added: “It's still really hard to find the right words to think of my name next to all those previous award winners that are not only icons of Australian history, but also just sporting heroes for us growing up – especially Ian Thorpe, Cathy Freeman around that Sydney 2000 Olympics.

“For me, I just can't think that my name is going to be on that same page with them. It's an amazing, amazing feeling and recognition.”

The Don Award, named after Sir Donald Bradman, is awarded to an Australian athlete or team whose achievements and example over the past 12 months have most inspired the nation.

Basketball royalty Lauren Jackson claimed the Dawn Award, named for Dawn Fraser, after competing at her fifth Olympic Games with the Opals.

She is just the fourth recipient of The Dawn Award, following Evonne Goolagong Cawley, the late Peter Norman and the Sydney 2000 Olympics Women’s Water Polo champions.

“It's incredible. Dawn is someone that I've looked up to for many years. She's become a friend of mine, and I'm really honoured and humbled in the same breath. It's really special. And I'm super proud,” said Jackson.

Squash great Geoff Hunt and Paralympic skier Michael Milton were both elevated to Legend Status.

Surfing champion Mick Fanning, former Kookaburras’ captain Mark Knowles, lawn bowls trailblazer Karen Murphy, Olympic hurdles gold medallist Sally Pearson, motor sport superstar Mark Skaife and dual-sport Paralympics champion Liesl Tesch were all inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The awards and inductions were decided by the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
