Beau Webster could make his Test debut against India in Adelaide after being brought into the Australian squad as cover for Mitch Marsh.

After Marsh pulled up sore after the first Test loss in Perth, Webster could replace him in the XI if he’s unavailable to play in Adelaide.

While the Tasmanian - who has made 303 Sheffield Shield runs this year at an average of 50.50 to go with nine wickets – is only considered as cover at this stage, Healy wants to see him receive a baggy green if he’s getting called into the squad.

He discussed his potential inclusion with Pat Welsh on SENQ Breakfast.

Welsh: “Do we know what’s happening with the Australian team? Beau Webster has been put on standby for Mitch Marsh.”

Healy: “I like that, but I don’t reckon standby, get him in.

“I don't really like just adding him to the squad unless he's going to play, drop the 12th man.

“You drop Boland out … and add Beau Webster.”

Welsh: “Webster took five wickets against New South Wales and Tassie beat NSW. He scored 61 and 49, so he's in really good form.”

Healy: “He’s through his injury phases. He’s massive, he’s 2m tall and he’s performed at every level – youth cricket, 2nd XI, Australia A and Shield level.

“He's an all-rounder, he’s consistent with the bat good under pressure and it might be time.

“That could be the way that we fill in a batting position, Mitch Marsh moves up if he is injury-free and then an all-rounder comes in.

“If Marsh moves up, he doesn’t stay an all-rounder because he’s injury prone, that might be the decision in the end.”

Webster also made 145 runs at an average of 72.5 and took seven wickets at an average of 19.57 in the two-game Australia A v India A series in Mackay and Melbourne.

The second Test between Australia and India begins in Adelaide on Friday, December 6. Listen to every ball LIVE on SEN and the SEN app.
