Day one of the third test between Australia and India has been called off early after rain interrupted the Aussie’s opening batting innings, which saw them at 0-28 off 13.2 overs.

Under fire opener Usman Khawaja started off positively for Australia, with the 37-year old notching up 19 runs off 47 balls during the first session.

Nathan McSweeney remains at the crease with his opening partner heading into day two, with the Queenslander sitting at four runs of 33 balls at stumps.

Akash Deep has come back into the Indian side and looked impressive so far, with the right arm quick only conceding the two runs from his 3.2 overs bowled so far in this test match.

Play will resume at 9:50am local time for the remaining four days of play, with both sides eager to get the opportunity to enter the Boxing Day test in Melbourne with a 2-1 lead in the Border-Gavaskar series.
