Australia has begun Day 3 brilliantly in Brisbane, reducing India to 3/22 after posting 445 with the bat.

The home side began the day at 7/405 and opted to keep India in the field across a rain-affected period that saw Alex Carey make 70, backing up the huge scores from Travis Head (152) and Steve Smith (101) on Day 2.

With patchy rain making the covers come on and off, Australia only bowled 7.2 overs to India before Lunch but did maximum damage in that period.

Mitchell Starc was the first bowler to strike, removing Yashasvi Jaiswal who chipped a ball to Mitchell Marsh at mid-wicket on just the second ball of the innings for four.

Marsh was into the action again in Starc’s next over with Shubman Gill (1) throwing his hands at a full and wide delivery.

With the ball catching a thick edge, Marsh had to fly to his left in gully to reel it in for a catch of the summer contender.

That dismissal brought Virat Kohli (3) to the crease and he fell on the last ball of the session before rain continued with Josh Hazlewood having him out caught behind.

Pending rain, play will resume after Lunch before 2 pm (AEDT) and 1 pm (local) with KL Rahul (13 not out) and Rishabh Pant (yet to face a ball) at the crease.
