Which jockey will go to the next level in 2025?

SENTrack’s Cam Luke and Mick Gannon have considered the curly question and come up with some intriguing answers.

Luke is keen on a Victorian-based rider who has put himself right in the mix in the Melbourne metro jockey premiership this season.

Ethan Brown. He has had a remarkable three months. Outstanding,” Luke said on SENTrack when asked which hoop will take giant strides in 2025.

“He’s a jockey who I think is going to a huge amount of success in 2025 and beyond.

“The best jockeys we’ve got here are in their prime. James McDonald is 32, Jamie Kah is almost 30… he is only 25.

“I’m a big Ethan Brown fan. He’s connected to a major stable with Ciaron Maher Racing which gives you a little boost as well.”

Luke also named a promising New South Wales-based hoop.

Zac Lloyd is no longer an apprentice and into the senior ranks,” he added.

“He’s another one, clearly we know how talented he is.”

Form analyst Gannon is a fan of a more established rider who has ridden lots of winners, but at the age of 38 could still yet break out.

“A jockey I’ve had plenty of time for over the years but he’s just been that level below is Tim Clark,” said Gannon.

“He’s currently sitting second on the (Sydney) metropolitan jockey premiership which is as high as we’ve seen Tim for some time.

“He is riding as well as he’s ever ridden and you know he’s going to get the rides for (Gai) Waterhouse and (Adrian) Bott.

“There’s a gap to be filled behind J-Mac (McDonald) and Nash (Rawiller) is usually the one for that, Zac (Lloyd) has been playing big boy jockeys for a while now and is right there.

“But I think ‘TC’ might be the one that can challenge J-Mac this year. Tommy Berry, Kerrin McEvoy, Tyler Schiller, they’re all in behind, but I think Timmy Clark is the one who can make a move and bridge the gap on J-Mac next year.”
