The Hobart Hurricanes are the BBL|14 champions courtesy of a blistering win over the Sydney Thunder in the Final on Monday night.

The Tasmanian outfit clinched their first Big Bash title with a thumping seven-wicket victory at Bellerive Oval, chasing down the target of 183 inside 15 overs.

It was all made possible by a remarkable century from local boy Mitch Owen.

The 23-year-old plundered 108 from 42 balls, reaching his ton off 39 deliveries, which included six fours and an astonishing 11 sixes.

See his knock below:

His heroics came after the Thunder batted first and put on 7/182.

Opener Jason Sangha (67 off 42) and his captain David Warner (48 off 32) produced a first-wicket partnership of 97 before the ‘Canes managed to stem the flow of runs.

Ollie Davies contributed 26 and Sam Billings 20 for the Thunder while Hurricanes bowlers Riley Meredith finished with figures of 3/27 and skipper Nathan Ellis took 3/23.

Hobart’s run chase seemed a breeze with Owen in complete control. He and Caleb Jewell put on 109 for the first wicket of which Jewell contributed just 13.

The foundation was set and Owen hit himself into the record books with the equal fastest BBL century, joining Craig Simmons who tonned up off 39 balls for the Perth Scorchers back in 2014.

Matthew Wade added an unbeaten 32 (off 17) while Ben McDermott joined him at the crease with 18 not out (off 12) and the winning runs.

Of the five Thunder bowlers used not one finished with an economy rate in single figures.

The Hurricanes finished the regular season on top of the table and then asserted their dominance in the finals series to come away with their first ever BBL title.
