Which players have been hyped up the most over the course of this pre-season?

Kane Cornes reckons there have been at least five players who have been overhyped by their own clubs.

“This Fireball Five is inspired (David King’s) Ferraris (comment) and the most hyped up pre-season players so far,” Cornes said on SEN’s Fireball.

“Which players have been hyped up the most?”

See Kane’s list below:

5 - Tom McCarthy (West Coast)

“I don’t know whether Jake Waterman has been hanging around Tim Gossage because he is prone to the big statement,” Cornes said.

“He had this to say about a West Coast youngster: ‘Gary Ablett of pre-season. He’s been unreal’.

“Tom McCarthy is the ‘Gary Ablett of the pre-season’ according to Jake, so he’s at five.”

4 - Will Brodie (Port Adelaide)

“Port Adelaide were doing the rounds last week and Josh Carr was full of praise for Will Brodie.

“I will be absolutely shocked if Will Brodie has a meaningful say in Port Adelaide’s season.

“Will Brodie according to his coach is flying. Look, he may play, but I’ll be surprised if he has a meaningful impact.”

3 - Jagga Smith (Carlton)

“Poor old Jagga Smith is already Carlton’s best player. He hasn’t played a game yet.

“Jagga is flying, I’ve seen some vision. But just calm down. He’s won their best and fairest already.

“I heard someone say he’s their best player already. I don’t know who that was.

“Gee there’s been some hype.”

2 - Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (Gold Coast)

“I’ve spoken about Jamarra. If Gold Coast post him one more time on their socials I’m gonna do a Terry Wallace.

“He’s just got to calm down and turn up to training more than three months in a row before we start hyping him up too much.”

1 - Josh Rachele (Adelaide)

“He has been hyped up like you would not believe.

“It’s a bit over the top at this stage.”
