Geelong has a challenge ahead but they will be in the mix for another premiership this season, according to premiership captain Joel Selwood.

Speaking to Garry Lyon & Tim Watson on SEN Breakfast, Selwood says there have been some costly results this season, but the Cat aren’t out of the flag race as they embark on a 14th finals series in coach Chris Scott's 16th year at the helm.

“Probably a couple of losses throughout the year that they didn't need to have; they just put them in this position. So it's going to be a fight still from fifth or sixth,” Selwood said.

“The top four get the best look at it, but they'll give himself a shot.”

The Cats will be boosted by the return of Jeremy Cameron and Sam De Koning for Saturday night's Round 24 fixture against Richmond at GMHBA Stadium. Jack Martin also returns to the side.

Injured midfielder Max Holmes is pushing to return from the ankle fracture and syndesmosis injury that has kept him out since Round 19.

“They are looking likely to get Jeremy (Cameron) back, and Max Holmes is a question mark down the track. So that will help,” Selwood added.

Selwood remains positive about the talent at the club that has blossomed this year while stars Cameron and Holmes have been injured.

“They have found a couple in this run home when those guys have been out too,” he added.

“Young (Jay) Polkinghorne up forward has done a good job, so they won't be giving their spots back easy. They go in in reasonable form, and they can build on that.”

Geelong currently sit in sixth position on the ladder. They take on the Tigers to determine their final position heading into yet another finals series.
