Graham: Melbourne loss couldn't be 'any worse' for Rams

Former NFL punter Ben Graham has declared that the Los Angeles Rams have been left embarrassed by the San Francisco 49ers after having had their ‘home’ game turned into an away one.

In the first-ever NFL regular-season game played in Australia, the 49ers, despite being the designated away team, were met with raucous support, having been in town for the entire week and in and around the community.

In contrast the Rams, who only arrived in Melbourne on Thursday morning and hadn’t ingratiated themselves to the same extent, were met with boos.

Whilst the match initially proved even, with the Rams leading during the early stages of the second quarter, San Francisco, who had acclimatised to the conditions, ran away with the game, scoring another three touchdowns to win 27-7.

Reflecting towards the end stages of the historic match, the former Jet, Lion, Cardinal and Saint believed the result has been nothing but a win for the 49ers.

"This has been a real win-win for the 49ers," Graham said on SEN's coverage of NFL Melbourne.

"They've won off the field with the work they've done during the week (and) the win on the field.

“For the Rams, I mean it couldn't be any worse because this is their home game.

"They are one of four teams with the marketing programme, the ability to grow their brand in Melbourne.

"They think that they've done that, but they're embarrassed by the 49ers and what they did this week."

The Rams will return to Los Angeles next week against the New York Giants at SoFi Stadium.

The 49ers will look to continue their winning start against the Miami Dolphins at Levi’s Stadium.
