V'Landys set to become NRL's first executive chairman

Having served as the interim executive chairman of the NRL, Peter V’Landys is set to take up the role on a permanent basis.

At a Saturday morning meeting of the chairs from the 17 NRL clubs (bar Wests Tigers and Melbourne Storm), along with the QRL and NSWRL, the ARLC Chairman received unanimous support to become the competition’s first executive chairman.

Whilst the appointment gives V’Landys unprecedented power, there is expected to be some protections surrounding the position including serving a three-year term alongside having an independent director that clubs and the states can go to if there are disputes.

The move will also see him leave his position as Racing NSW Chief Executive, which he has served in for the last 22 years.

The position is set to be finalised when the ARLC meet on Wednesday for a board meeting.
