Three-time Richmond premiership defender Nathan Broad has expressed a desire to extending his AFL career at West Coast, revealing he feels as physically good as he has in years.

Broad called time on his Richmond career late in the 2026 season after 191 games across 11 seasons at Punt Road, including premierships in 2017, 2019 and 2020.

The 33-year-old West Australian has returned to Perth with his family and has held conversations with both West Coast and Fremantle about what a potential role at either club could look like in 2027.

Broad revealed he’s had conversations with both WA clubs, admitting Fremantle had ruled out adding him to its playing list, but he said there remained a possibility of continuing his career with the Eagles under former Tigers assistant Andrew McQualter.

“Would I play again? Potentially,” Broad said on SEN WA Breakfast with Scotty and Goss.

“There’s been some chats. Freo’s no playing. They’ve said that. West Coast, there’s a slim chance (they could offer a playing deal).

“I’ll keep it open; I’ve been training and keeping fit.

“If I was going to come back and play for ‘Mini’ (McQualter), I feel a million bucks, I feel great, it’s the best I’ve felt in a long time. My actual performance stuff will be fine, and I’ve been training all the time.

“I’d come for no trade picks, I’m a free agent in that regard and I’d be taking a minimum wage. I’d be costing the club absolutely nothing to come and I feel I’ve still got a lot to offer.

“I wouldn’t say no (if asked), I’d definitely think about it heavily.”

A move to West Coast would reunite Broad with McQualter, who spent several seasons working alongside the Swan Districts product at Punt Road before taking charge of the Eagles. He’d also reunite with premiership teammates Liam Baker and Jack Graham, adding to the Richmond flavour already at the club.

Broad’s experience would appeal to a rebuilding West Coast side, with the veteran having spent the majority of his career as an understated yet dependable member of Richmond’s defence during one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
