Two Carlton first-team players were admitted into hospital overnight after complications from alleged recreational drug use.

The players were allegedly partying at one of their teammate's houses on Saturday night, with reports initially claiming at least three players required emergency medical care.

It has since been revealed that Lachie Cowan was taken to hospital last night to receive medical treatment, and was released hours later.

In a separate incident, Will Hayward later admitted himself to hospital to receive stitches for a minor cut to the head.

Ambulance Victoria has confirmed that they responded to an incident in the early hours of Sunday morning, with Advanced Life Support paramedics attending the scene.

Carlton released this statement on Sunday afternoon:

"The Carlton Football Club can confirm that Lachie Cowan and Will Hayward were admitted to hospital under separate circumstances on Sunday morning.

"Cowan received medical treatment and underwent observation, before being discharged a short time later.

"Will Hayward experienced a minor cut to the head after a fall, and admitted himself to hospital where he received stitches before being discharged.

"The Club has been in regular contact with both players, with priority for their wellbeing and both players have now received the necessary care relating to their separate circumstances."

More to come.
