One of the storylines that simmered throughout the Trade Period without ever reaching a boil was Collingwood’s Jordan De Goey.
Not for the first time, the premiership Magpie found himself amongst the trade whispers but it was list boss Justin Leppitsch who caused a stir after Deadline Day.
When asked if De Goey was on the market throughout the Trade Period, Leppitsch left the door ajar for a potential move in the future.
“Not with ‘Jordy’, unfortunately, he stays a Collingwood player and that's exciting for us because we add two really good assets and we keep the ones we've got, so 2027 Collingwood should be a really exciting place to watch footy and play footy,” Leppitsch said following the end of Deadline Day.
The comments drew the attention of Sam Edmund and Kane Cornes on SEN Breakfast.
Edmund: Now, unfortunately was the word that jumped out there and was dissected heavily in the aftermath.
“Surely, he just had a slip of the tongue there from ‘Leppa.’”
Cornes: “Yeah, I thought he was pretty open and honest though.
“Right throughout, I enjoyed Leppa’s work.
“He was very accessible, and I thought quite honest. He continued to bat away the Houston stuff, which clearly aged well and they were true to their word with that one.
“De Goey, they were a bit more open to moving I reckon, and absolutely would've looked at offers there.
“None eventuated now and who would know?
“Jordan De Goey may have committed to Tassie. We would never ever know. So maybe there's greater plans there.”
With Tasmania entering the competition in 2028, there’s a real chance they have a swing at picking up De Goey who will be an unrestricted free agent. Whether Collingwood will be happy for the 30-year-old to leave the club next year will be a key talking point throughout the season.
