Hamish McLachlan’s 2026 Oaks tips

The Crown Oaks has been a happy hunting ground for Hamish McLachlan over the past six years.

He has nailed the trifecta and first four in five of the last six editions of the 2500m Group 1 for the fillies.

Hame has now delivered his numbers for the 2026 Oaks which takes place at Flemington today (Thursday) at 5:10pm AEDT.

McLachlan’s Oaks tips

McLachlan feels the quinella will come from Proxima Dea (1), Icelady (3), Quick Finish (3) and De Armas (4), but wanted to add a few other runners for insurance.

“The favourite is Proxima Dea who is an incredibly filly, she’s five from five, she’s drawn wide with Zac Lloyd - I think she might just win,” McLachlan said on SEN Mornings.

“I think there’s only three that can worry her. I think the quinella with 1, 2, 3, 4 happens. It won’t make you a heap of money but you’ll make money.

“For third add in Churchill Rose (7) and Chris Waller’s other two runners - Your Colour (8) and Tharwa (15).

“Then for fourth add in Notified (11), Salann (6) and Shameful Impulse (16).”

2025: He had Strictly Business on top, ahead of the The Pearls, After Summer and Classic Gem to fill the minors.
2024: Missed.
2023: He had Zardozi to beat Aethelflaed with Basilinna and Amazonian Lass for third and fourth.
2022: He got She’s Extreme, Pavitra, Queen Air and Zennzella.
2021: He picked Willowy, Douceur, Biscayne Bay and Elusive Express.
2020: He selected Personal, Salto Angel, Montefilia and Miravalle.
