Renegades woes worsen with loss to Scorchers

The Big Bash title defence of the Melbourne Renegades has been a downright disaster.

Last night the reigning BBL champs were easily brushed aside by the Perth Scorchers to the tune of six wickets at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong.

They are now 0-7 in BBL|09 and at the foot of the table.

Batting first, Michael Klinger’s men put on 5/175 with Sam Harper top scoring with 73 (46 balls) while Beau Webster chipped in with 59 not out (40 balls).

For the visitors, Jhye Richardson was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/22 (4 overs) as Mitch Marsh made his presence felt with 2/10 (2 overs).

In response the Scorchers made 4/178 to pass the target with an over remaining.

Liam Livingstone was named Player of the Match for his 59 (39 balls) which included four sixes, one of which made it was onto the roof. He was supported by Josh Inglis who finished with 51 (33 balls).

But it wasn’t always that pretty for the Englishman…

The result improves Perth’s record to 3-4 which has them on the brink of the top five. They next meet the fifth-placed Brisbane Heat at Optus stadium on Saturday, January 11.

For the Renegades, only pride is left to play for as they look to bounce back in the derby against the Melbourne Stars at Marvel Stadium on Friday.
