Josh Jenkins has outlined Gold Coast’s biggest hits and misses from the last five years of drafting and recruiting players.
The former Adelaide Crows forward will assess each of the 18 clubs on AFL Trade Radio and provide what he believes have been the hits and misses when it comes to player acquisition over the last half decade.
Read his thoughts on the Suns below:
“The big hit was the 2019 Draft,” Jenkins said on The Late Trade.
“Pick one was Matt Rowell, pick two was Noah Anderson, pick 11 Sam Flanders.
“That is the absolute heart of your midfield for the next decade.
“They nailed that and that's going to take them a long way.”
“For their big miss, it’s not a big miss yet, but I’m going to go to last year’s crop,” Jenkins added.
“They just can't afford for many or any of Jed Walter, Ethan Read, Jake Rogers and Will Graham to be misses.
“If you want to talk about those four as a collective, they can't afford for that collective to ‘miss’, they need at least a couple of them to really take them forward.
“Jed Walter is probably the one that they need to hit … they’re high on him, he’s a hard worker and he’s the one they probably need alongside Ben King as a one-two punch.
“He's not a massive, tall forward, but he's a really hard worker, and he really splits packs and likes to play the game physically.”
