Josh Jenkins has outlined Sydney’s biggest hits and misses from the last five years of drafting and recruiting players.

The former Adelaide Crows forward will assess each of the 18 clubs on AFL Trade Radio and provide what he believes have been the hits and misses when it comes to player acquisition over the last half decade.

Read his thoughts on the Swans below:

Sydney hits

“In terms of their big hit, it was the draft-saving selection of Chad Warner,” Jenkins said on The Late Trade.

“They had Dylan Stephens and pick 5 … and Will Gould was a dominant defender but couldn’t translate it to AFL footy.

“The 2019 Draft was saved at pick 39 in Chad Warner from WA whose signature is going to be chased and chased hard over the next 12 months.

“He’s definitely their biggest hit.”

Sydney misses

“In terms of a big miss, this is a little bit left of field,” Jenkins added.

“Sydney has had so much success with rookies over the journey like Joel Amartey, Robbie Fox, Nic Newman, Lewis Melican, Jake Lloyd, Dane Rampe, Mike Pyke, Nick Smith, Kieren Jack … the list goes on.

“But they haven't found one for the past five years. They haven't found a rookie who can just come in.

“So many clubs that we've assessed over the past couple of weeks have just been able to find one or two rookies to come in and be contributors.

“They’re a team who have been probably the cornerstone and the industry leader in terms of finding rookies, but they haven't found one for four or five years.”
