“The club also needs to take some accountability": Parker calls on Broncos to support Mam

SEN’s Corey Parker believes the Brisbane Broncos would be sending their playing group the wrong message if they were to part ways with troubled star Ezra Mam.

Mam has landed himself in hot water after he collided with another vehicle which has caused injury to a four-year-old occupant. It was later revealed that Mam failed a roadside drug test and was driving without a licence.

Parker conceded that the 21-year-old had made a serious error in judgement but urged the Broncos not to sack their star playmaker.

“He has made a terrible mistake and he needs to acknowledge that,” Parker said on SENQ.

“Punishment will come in the form of the law and they will hand down their penalty.

“The Broncos, I feel, need to support Ezra and need to put their arms around him in support.

“If the club washes their hands with Ezra Mam and move on, what does he actually learn?

“All that will happen is that he has made a bad mistake, gets sacked and then moves on.

“The club also needs to take some accountability and responsibility for their players.

“Are they fulfilling their role if they throw Mam out because he made a mistake?

“Mam needs to learn from his mistakes and become a better person and must work on himself. He needs to understand that this will not be tolerated.”

After a meeting with his management, Mam voluntarily checked himself into rehab in order to address his personal issues.

Parker told SENQ that Mam genuinely regrets his actions and wants to be given a chance to repay the Broncos.

“I know Ezra well enough and he’s extremely remorseful with what has unfolded.

“He hasn’t spoken publicly because legally, he can't talk about it.

“He will accept any punishment and put his hand up.

“Michael Maguire officially turns up on Wednesday to start his tenure as head coach. It will be fascinating to see what unfolds from Maguire's point of view.

“I feel as if the Broncos have a responsibility to support Ezra Mam, make him a better person and then make him a better athlete.”
