The Cronulla Sharks broke an unhappy finals record under Craig Fitzgibbon in 2024, making their first preliminary final since 2018. However, a 26-6 loss to the Penrith Panthers in that final shows there is still a way to go for the boys from the Shire.
The Sharks enjoyed a blistering start, winning nine of their first ten games before winning only half of their remaining 14 games.
A 25-18 away victory over the Melbourne Storm without Nicho Hynes and Brayden Trindall saw Daniel Atkinson announce himself on the rugby league stage as the half would go onto play 19 games for the season: a career high. The emergence of Kayal Iro and Tom Hazelton were other highlights for the Sharks in 2024.
The signing of Dally M Prop of the Year Addin Fonua-Blake will provide a serious boost to Cronulla's already impressive forward pack and may be the key to lifting the Sharks into the Grand Final for the first time since their historic 2016 victory.
Finish: 4th (16W, 8L)
Signings: Addin Fonua-Blake (Warriors), Hohepa Puru (Canberra)
Losses: Royce Hunt (Wests Tigers), Jack Williams (Parramatta), Siteni Taukamo (Newcastle)
