Aussie motorsport legend Dick Johnson reflects on Hall of Fame career

Australian motorsport legend Dick Johnson is this week’s guest on This Is Your Journey – thanks to Tobin Brothers.

The 79-year-old enjoyed one of the most famous careers in Aussie racing, having been a five-time Australian Touring Car champion and three-time Bathurst 1000 winner.

Johnson’s career spanned 35 years and while he had a laconic nature, the Queenslander was a ruthless competitor whose rivalry with Peter Brock took the sport to new heights.

Johnson grew up in Brisbane and begin driving in Coorparoo and after becoming one of the greats down under, Johnson drove seven race in the NASCAR Cup Series in a Ford Thunderbird.

After retiring in 1999, it didn’t take long for Johnson to be officially crowned as an all-time great as he entered the V8 Supercars Hall of Fame in 2001.

The Johnson legacy lived on beyond his driving days with his son Steven Johnson competing in Supercars for over a decade for the Dick Johnson Racing Team.
