Former Australian spinner Bryce McGain has named players to watch for the BBL|14 season.
The competition kicked off last weekend with the Perth Scorchers defeating the Melbourne Stars at Optus Stadium.
While a lot of the attention will focus on our Australian stars and internationals including Ben Duckett, Jacob Bethell and Lockie Ferguson, McGain has picked out a few players early in their careers that he expects to shine this season.
He named 21-year-old Cooper Connolly and 22-year-old Jake Fraser-McGurk, both of whom have already made their Aussie debuts in the shorter forms, as well as Victorian First Class No. 3 Campbell Kellaway (22) and 2023 Under-19 World Cup star Harry Dixon (19) as ones to watch.
“A couple of young stars are coming through like Cooper Connolly from the Perth Scorchers,” McGain said on SEN Sportsday.
“He will continue to shine. Invest there. If you're buying shares in Big Bash players, buy him, he is going to be very, very good.
“There's a couple of others that you’re going to see come in now like a young guy Harry Dixon for the Renegades, keep an eye there on him, he’s a very, very dynamic player.
“There’s Campbell Kellaway who's done pretty well in the long form of the game, he’ll be with the Melbourne Stars, and he may get the opportunity in amongst some very good players.
“I'm excited to see those guys as well as the next move of Jake Fraser-McGurk at the Renegades.
“I’m expecting a big move from the Renegades this year, they’re going to be coached by Cameron White and he’s one of the most astute T20 brains in the country.”
You can listen to EVERY ball of the entire BBL|14 season on SEN and the SEN app across the summer.
