Fremantle midfielder Hayden Young is now the competition’s longest-contracted player after signing on until the end of the 2033 season.

The 23-year-old was already signed until the end of the 2027 season and has now added six years onto that, taking him through to 2033.

The budding star moved from defence into the midfield last season, enjoying a career-best campaign.

With 80 games under his belt from five seasons, the former No. 7 pick, Victorian native Young says he’s fallen in love with the club and was more than happy to commit with the pen.

“It’s super special. When I arrived at the Football Club, I was welcomed in really well. They obviously took a punt on me at pick 7 as an 18-year-old who had never travelled to Fremantle and didn’t know much about the Club,” Young said via a statement.

“In the five years that I've been here, I've really fallen in love, and I'm super excited that this is where I'm going to be staying for the rest of my career.”

Dockers Head of Player Personnel David Walls was thrilled to re-sign the Dandenong Stingrays and Mornington product.

“Coming across from Victoria, he’s so invested in the Fremantle Football Club,” Walls said via a statement.

“He’s a young leader who helps drives standards and we couldn’t be more excited to sign him as a Docker for life.

“Moving into the midfield he would’ve become highly sought after as a free agent and his reputation around the country has gone through the roof with that switch.

“Just his work ethic to elevate his game. He’s now a goalkicking midfielder which is extremely valuable and he also went forward last season.”

Young is the only AFL player who is signed until the end of the 2033 season. All of Sam Taylor (GWS), Connor Rozee (Port Adelaide), Noah Balta (Richmond), Max King (St Kilda) and Aaron Naughton (Western Bulldogs) are signed until the end of 2032.
