The Perth Scorchers are a Hobart Hurricanes win away from playing in the BBL|14 finals series after they defeated the Adelaide Strikers on Saturday night.

The five wicket win for the Scorchers has eliminated officially eliminated the Strikers and the Brisbane Heat, as well as the Melbourne Renegades who were able to get a three wicket win against the Heat earlier that day.

Jake Fraser-McGurk's outstanding 95 runs off 46 balls can't go unmentioned, as it's the highest score the 22-year-old has recorded in his short BBL career to date.

Cooper Connolly’s 39 runs off 21 balls lead the way strongly for Perth’s run chase, as the Scorchers were able to chase down the target score of 161 with 22 balls left to spare.

The bowling efforts from Jason Behrendorff (3/21) and Mahli Beardman (3/17) were key pillars in limiting the Strikers to 161 runs, despite Liam Scott’s 67 runs off 43 balls.

The 24-year-old’s batting innings was the highlight of the night for the Strikers, as Tim Paine’s first season as head coach ends with a last place finish on the BBL ladder.

All of Western Australia will be sweating on the result of Sunday night’s game between the Melbourne Stars and the Hobart Hurricanes, as a win for the Stars will see the Scorchers miss the BBL finals for only the third time in the franchise’s history.

The Hurricanes already have top spot locked up, as they haven’t lost a game since playing the Renegades in Geelong earlier in the season.

The final match of the BBL|14 season will take place at the MCG at 7:15pm.
