DONE DEAL

Gold Coast has completed a trade with Hawthorn for Aidan Schubert and Sam Butler.

AFL Media's Cal Twomey laid out the trade.

HAWTHORN
Give: Schubert, Butler, R1 (2028) & R3 (2027 - GC)
Gets: R1 (2028), R2 (2028) & R2 (2027)

GOLD COAST
Give: R1 (2028), R2 (2028) & R2 (2027)
Gets: Schubert, Butler, R1 (2028) & R3 (2027 - GC)

Schubert has reportedly signed a five-year deal with the Suns, having only joined the Hawks via last year's draft.

Butler will link up with Damien Hardwick who coached his older brother Dan to a premiership at Richmond. He has played 33 games across five seasons at Hawthorn.

Pies respond to Houston chat

Collingwood has responded following the Dan Houston mention.

The Magpies got in touch with AFL Trade Radio to clear up any chatter surrounding the two-time All-Australian.

“Dan Houston has not come up in any trade discussions either led by the club or led by Dan Houston,” said a club spokesperson.

Houston finished fourth in the Copeland Trophy in his second season at the club.

Geelong and Collingwood shopping defenders around

Collingwood is “aggressively” shopping Dan Houston around.

That is according to Josh Jenkins who reckons the Magpies are looking to move the former Port Adelaide star on after two years in black and white.

There has been smoke surrounding Houston’s Pies future over the last few months.

“I believe that Collingwood are aggressively shopping Dan Houston,” Jenkins said on AFL Trade Radio.

“It’s not, ‘We’ll see what happens, if a deal comes we’ll think about it’. My understanding is they are aggressively shopping Dan Houston.”

Jenkins also believes that Geelong is taking a similar approach - although not quite as aggressive - with Sam De Koning.

He believes the contracted 25-year-old does not quite understand his standing as a Cats defender after the club signed Jordan Ridley.

“We just need a half step back from aggressive, but that’s what Geelong are doing with Sam De Koning,” Jenkins added.

“I think they’re actually having a hard time getting Sam to understand his position within that team.”

Co-host Kane Cornes asked: “You think Geelong are happy for De Koning to leave?”

Jenkins replied: “Yes.”

Cornes added: “That’s a bombshell.”

Jenkins also believes the Cats are happy for Gryan Miers to move on despite a proposed shift to West Coast not taking place.

“Gryan Miers is the other one I believe they’re more than happy for him to go somewhere else,” he added.

“De Koning and Miers I don’t think are moves for this trade period in terms of what they want to do in return.

“I think they’re setting themselves up potentially for next year. We know about free agents and other players that might be available next year.

“I don’t think they’re keen to move those two because they want to get in the game for someone this trade period. It’s more about setting themselves up for 12 months’ time.

“But certainly happy for Miers to explore his options and I believe there’s been a bit of a push or a bit of a conversation around Sam De Koning.

“Almost helping him be more aware of where he sits in the pecking order since Jordan Ridley arrived at the club.

“You’ve only got to go through their back seven on paper and Sam doesn’t really fit in it.”
