In their first season under new coach Shane Flanagan, the St George-Illawarra Dragons exceeded expectations to finish 11th but still fell short of qualifying for their first finals series since 2018.
There were serious highlights for the Dragons in 2024, including their first win over the Storm in Victoria in 25 years and the emergence of Zac Lomax as one of the best wingers in the NRL.
However, the club lost four of their final five games to miss finals and ultimately endured the very public fallout between the club and captain Ben Hunt, leading to the halfback’s departure.
The club will also be without Lomax after the winger was granted a release early in the season, raising concerns over the Dragons’ ability to score points in 2025, though the additions of Clint Gutherson, Damien Cook, Valentine Holmes, and Lachlan Ilias will certainly give them more strike options.
Finish: 11th (11W, 13L)
Signings: Damien Cook (Rabbitohs), Valentine Holmes (Cowboys), Clint Gutherson (Eels), Lachlan Ilias (Rabbitohs)
Losses: Zac Lomax (Eels), Savelio Tamale (Raiders), Jack Bird (Wests Tigers), Max Feagai (Dolphins), Ben Hunt (Broncos)
